As art history books go (and I've read a lot), "Look At This If You Love Great Art" by Chloë Ashby is a standout. Not only is it written by a woman, it is really accessible whether or not you know even a little about art or live and breathe it. The descriptions and general content are refreshingly written with a casualness that is rare and refreshing for books of this type.
Some of the artwork in this book I had seen before, however Ashby taught me to appreciate these works in new ways. Along with many new (to me) pieces and artists this read had a good selection of new and old artworks in a wide range of styles.

I can appreciate that we got to see much more diversity than the usual art history books filled to the brim with dead white men, although I will say that the vast majority of the artist were European and American.
Each piece that Ashby selected for this book was presented in full coloured photos alongside a whole bunch of extra info - An about the artist, the location of the real pieces, and suggestions of other works and artists which are either linked, or she simply thought you may like.
All in all I thought that this was a great art book, easily dip-in-and-out-able and really just a breath of fresh air within the genre!

Look At This If You Love Great Art by Chloë Ashby is a beautifully curated book that introduces readers to 100 essential artworks from different styles, periods, and artists. Rather than overwhelming detail, it offers clear, engaging insights into why each artwork matters, making it perfect for both beginners and art lovers. The book encourages readers to look deeper, think critically, and explore further resources connected to each piece. It also highlights diverse artists and movements, making art more accessible and inclusive. Much like creating a Moth Fursuit, the book celebrates imagination, detail, and creative expression, showing how art can transform ideas into meaningful visual experiences.
